From the very start of His ministry, Jesus declared:
“The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe the gospel.” (Mark 1:15)
This was not a teaser for a future age, nor a kingdom “on hold.” It was an announcement that God’s reign had already broken into history. Preachers like Curry Blake emphasize this truth: the kingdom is here now, expressed through Christ’s authority, delegated to His body, the Church.
Dispensationalist theology, however, insists the kingdom is delayed until a future earthly millennium. These are two radically different ways of living the Christian life.
1. The Kingdom Inaugurated at the Cross
At the cross and resurrection, the decisive victory was won.
“He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him.”(Colossians 2:15)
The kingdom is not waiting to arrive in a thousand-year future. It was inaugurated at Calvary. From that moment on, the reign of Christ became a present reality.
2. Believers Share in the Reign Now
Paul declares:
“And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus.”(Ephesians 2:6)
Notice the present tense: raised… seated. We are already participating in Christ’s authority. This is why healing, deliverance, and gospel power are possible today. The kingdom is not theoretical; it is active.
3. The Not Yet Consummation
We are capable of walking exactly like Jesus walked (Read Did Jesus Really Live as Our Model? And Can We Walk Like Him Today?). However, there is an inheritance of glorious body which we await, the one which can walk through walls like Jesus.
Even though the kingdom is here, creation still waits for the final unveiling:
“The creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed.” (Romans 8:19)
This is the “not yet”: though Christ reigns, we await resurrection bodies and the visible renewal of all creation.
The kingdom itself is not postponed — it is operating now. We can walk in the authority of the Kingdom now.
4. Contrast With Dispensationalism
- Dispensationalism: The kingdom was offered to Israel, rejected, and postponed until after the Church age. It will only arrive in a literal future millennium when Christ reigns physically from Jerusalem.
- The Bible teaches that the kingdom is here now, inaugurated by Christ’s cross and resurrection. Believers already walk in its reality, exercising the authority of Christ through the Spirit. Its fullness will be revealed when Christ returns, not when an earthly millennium begins.
Jesus Himself said:
“The kingdom of God is not coming with signs to be observed… for behold, the kingdom of God is in your midst.” (Luke 17:20–21)
Conclusion: Living in Kingdom Reality
The kingdom is not postponed. It is here. Christ reigns now, and we are seated with Him in authority. Dispensationalism postpones the kingdom and leaves believers waiting for a future age. But Finished Work theology proclaims: It is finished.
The kingdom is present, active, and advancing. What we await is not its arrival, but its consummation in resurrection and renewal.
“For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death.”(1 Corinthians 15:25–26)
