Healing for ALL

5–8 minutes

Healing is a central theme in the Bible, and it’s clear that God’s healing power is available to everyone—regardless of their spiritual maturity or status. Whether someone is unsaved, newly saved, a carnal Christian, or spiritually mature, God provides pathways for healing that meet them where they are. In this post, we will explore how healing manifests in different spiritual stages and discuss the various ways through which healing can be received, whether near or far, and even through the faith of others.

Key points

  1. Healing is available for the The Unsaved
  2. Healing for The Newly Saved:
  3. Healing for a Believer
  4. Healing is available to those who are at a Distance
  5. Healing When someone else has faith for You
  6. Conclusion

Healing is available for the The Unsaved

In Mark 16:18, Jesus speaks about believers laying hands on the sick,

And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned. These signs will accompany those who have believed: in My name they will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues; they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

Mark 16:18

In context, we can see that those they are laying hands on, are unbelievers. This act is an expression of God’s power that can lead to their physical healing and potentially open their hearts to the Gospel.

So even if you are not a believer, get in touch with anyone who believes, and get your healing.

Healing for The Newly Saved

James 5:14-15 provides guidance for new believers, instructing them to call on the elders of the church to anoint them with oil and pray for healing.

Is anyone among you sick? Then he must call for the elders of the church and they are to pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him.

James 5:14-15

James is widely considered to be one of the first books written in the Bible, and there is a consensus that this was probably the first book written, and was supposed to be a “primer” for new Christians. It is understood that James’s instruction to call elders is so that the new believers will have access to healing, as they are still growing in their understanding.

It also has to be noted that Paul makes it clear that it is the “prayer of faith” that heals the sick, and not the “anointing oil”.

Healing for a Believer

Romans 8:11 speaks to those who are not new believers, indicating that the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead will also give life to their mortal bodies.

But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.

Rom 8:11

This passage encourages mature believers to claim their healing by faith, fully understanding and believing in the promises of God, and letting the eternal life in them to flow into their bodies for healing.

Healing is available to those who are at a Distance

The Bible also shows that healing is not limited by physical proximity. In Matthew 8:5-13, we read about a centurion who approached Jesus, asking Him to heal his servant from a distance. The centurion understood the power of authority and believed that Jesus only needed to speak the word for his servant to be healed:

“Lord, I am not worthy for You to come under my roof, but just say the word, and my servant will be healed.”

Matt 8:8

Jesus was amazed by the centurion’s faith, declaring that He hadn’t found such great faith even in Israel. The servant was healed that very moment, demonstrating that physical presence isn’t necessary for God’s healing power to be effective.

This concept is also reflected in the writings of John G. Lake, who emphasized that distance does not diminish the power of faith. Ultimately, whether healing is administered from near or far, the power remains the same.

This means that even if you are at a distance, and you need someone else to pray for you, it is available.

Healing When someone else has faith for You

Scripture provides several examples of individuals being healed not by their own faith, but by the faith of others:

  • The Syrophoenician Woman: In Mark 7:26 and Matthew 15:28, we see that the faith of a Gentile woman resulted in the healing of her daughter. Despite not being part of the covenant community, her persistent faith in Jesus led to her daughter’s deliverance.
  • The Centurion’s Servant: Similarly, in Matthew 8:5-13, the centurion’s faith brought healing to his servant. Again, the servant’s healing was not a result of his own faith, but that of his master.
  • The Paralytic and His Friends: In the story of the paralytic man carried by four friends (Mark 2:3-5), it was the faith of the friends that moved Jesus to heal him. The scripture emphasizes that Jesus saw “their faith,” referring to the friends who brought the paralytic to Him.
  • Lazarus’s Resurrection: When Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead (John 11), it wasn’t Lazarus’s faith that brought him back to life, but the faith of Jesus Himself. This demonstrates that in some instances, healing or resurrection doesn’t require the faith of the one being healed, but the faith of another.
  • James 5:14-15: In this passage, the responsibility of faith lies with the elders who pray the prayer of faith over the sick. The sick person may not have the faith to pray for themselves, but the elders’ faith is what activates the healing.

These examples show that someone else can have faith for us, in our time of need.

Conclusion

I don’t know where you are in your faith, but irrespective of your position, healing is also available for you.

Healing is a multifaceted gift from God, available to everyone regardless of their spiritual status. Whether it’s the unsaved, the newly saved, the carnal Christian, or the spiritually mature, God’s healing power is accessible through various means. We see that healing can occur through the laying on of hands, from a distance, or through the faith of others. Each method underscores the importance of faith and the authority we have been given as believers.

As we continue to grow in our faith, let us remember that healing is not just a distant possibility but a present reality that God has provided for all His children. Whether near or far, through our faith or the faith of others, we can access the healing power of God and bring restoration to those in need.
