How Did God Make The World Through “Jesus”: Heb 1:2

3–5 minutes

Most believers know Jesus as Redeemer, Savior, and the One who died and rose again. But the Bible reveals something even more breathtaking: Jesus was the Creator through whom God made the universe.

Genesis tells us how God created.
John tells us who the Word is.
Hebrews tells us through whom creation happened.

in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world.- Heb 1:2

Put together, they give us one of the most beautiful pictures in Scripture:

the Son of God is the divine Word through whom everything came into existence.

1. Genesis: Creation Happens Through God’s Spoken Word

The opening chapter of the Bible introduces a pattern:

  • “And God said…”
  • “…and it was so.”

God creates not by tools, effort, or struggle.
He creates by speaking. Word.

Light appears because God said it.
Land forms because God said it.
Life emerges because God said it.

Creation, from the very beginning, is a word-acted reality.

But Genesis never tells us who this Word is—only that creation happens by it.

The New Testament answers the question.

2. John 1: The Word Who Created All Things Is Jesus

John begins his Gospel by pulling back the curtain:

“In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God.” (John 1:1)

This Word (Logos):

  • was eternal
  • was divine
  • was in fellowship with God
  • existed before creation
  • is the agent of creation

John 1:3 makes it absolute:

“All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that has been made.”

Then the stunning moment:

“The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” (John 1:14)

The same divine Word through whom God created the universe became human in Jesus Christ.

When God “said” in Genesis, He was creating through the eternal Word — through Jesus.

3. Hebrews 1:2 — The Son Is the Agent Through Whom God Made the Worlds

Hebrews confirms it with unmistakable clarity:

“Through whom also He made the worlds.” (Heb 1:2)

The Greek word aiōnas means:

  • worlds
  • ages
  • the universe
  • time and space

So Hebrews teaches:

Creation did not happen apart from Jesus — it happened through Him.

This places the Son far above angels, prophets, and creation itself, which is what the author of Hebrews is trying to say.
The Son is not part of creation.
The Son is the One through whom creation exists.

4. The Trinity in Creation: One God, Three Persons Working Together

The biblical picture is consistent:

  • The Father plans and wills creation.
  • The Son (the Word) accomplishes creation.
  • The Spirit gives life, order, and movement to creation (Genesis 1:2).

Creation is a Trinitarian act — one God in unity, three Persons in operation.

The early church summarized it this way:

“The Father speaks.
The Son is the Word spoken.
The Spirit is the breath that carries the Word.”

This is why the universe exists.

5. Why This Matters: Creation and Redemption Flow Through the Same Person

The writer of Hebrews immediately links creation and salvation:

  • Through the Son, God made the worlds (Heb 1:2).
  • Through the Son, God speaks in the last days (Heb 1:2).
  • Through the Son, God purifies sins (Heb 1:3).
  • Through the Son, God upholds all things (Heb 1:3).

The point is powerful:

The One who created the universe is the same One who redeemed it.
The Creator is the Savior, and the Savior is the Creator.

This has enormous implications for the believer.

7. Our Identity: We Are Held by the Same Word That Formed the Universe

You were not saved by a lesser power.
You were born again by the same Word that created all things.

The One who made the stars:

  • calls you righteous
  • calls you holy
  • calls you His child
  • sustains your new creation life

Your identity is not fragile.
It is anchored in the One through whom the universe itself was made.

Conclusion: Jesus Is Both the Creator and Redeemer

When we put Genesis, John, and Hebrews together, the picture is irresistible:

  • Creation happened because God spoke.
  • The One God spoke through is the eternal Word — Jesus.
  • The universe exists because Jesus, the Son, acted.
  • The same Jesus now sustains, redeems, and rules all things.

The Bible wants us to see the entire story—creation, redemption, and new creation—through one Person:

Jesus Christ, the eternal Word, through whom God made the worlds and through whom God saves the world.

And this is why the book of Hebrews begins not with warnings or rules—but with glory.

The One who saved you is the One who created everything.

That is why your salvation is secure.
That is why your identity is stable.
That is why your hope is unshakeable.

Because the Creator Himself has spoken — and His Word never fails.
