Is It Really Love?” – A Heart Check for Every Believer

One of the things I constantly have to remind myself is this:

Whatever I do — is it truly motivated by love for others?

Whether it’s worship, preaching a sermon, or posting something online… I have to ask: Is the driving force love?

Jesus: Love in Action, Even in Confrontation

When Jesus flipped the tables in the temple, it wasn’t a fit of rage.

It was love — love for the Father’s house and love for the people, that they might see the glory of God.

When He confronted the Pharisees, it wasn’t hatred.

It was love that exposed their blindness, hoping they would turn and see.

Questions I Ask Myself

• When we join a worship-protest — is it done out of love for others?
• When we preach on the streets — is love what compels us?
• When we call out sin — is it with a heart broken in love for the one trapped in it?
• When we march or rally — is it love that leads our steps?
• When we post a snarky meme or insult unbelievers — is it love speaking?
• When we call our leaders “demonic” — is it love for their souls that moves us?
• When we speak against another belief system, or way of life — is it rooted in love for the people?

These are not questions I ask to judge others, but to judge my own heart first.

Fighting for God Without Love Isn’t God’s Way

Too often, we defend the faith not out of love but out of:

• A need to be right
• A need to protect “our” version of truth
• A desire to win an argument rather than a soul

But Jesus never called us to defend Him with hostility.

When Peter raised a sword in Gethsemane, Jesus stopped him —

not because Peter was wrong about who Jesus was,

but because Jesus never called us to defend Him through force or aggression.

Instead, Jesus modeled a better way:

• To love even when falsely accused
• To heal even those who come to harm us
• To win hearts, not arguments

The Final Heart Check

Paul said it best:

“If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge,

and if I have faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.”

— 1 Corinthians 13:2

We can talk all day about anointing, healing, revival, and spiritual power —

but if there is no love, it all amounts to nothing.

So the question stands, for me and for you:

Whatever I do… is it truly out of love for others?
