Have you ever doubted yourself? Maybe you’ve wondered whether you’re living right, making the right choices, or if God truly approves of you. If so, you’re not alone. Even the greatest men and women of faith have faced moments of uncertainty.
Take Elijah, for example. He was a powerful prophet of God, yet he experienced deep discouragement, fear, and even a desire to quit. He ran for his life, sat under a tree, and prayed that he might die (1 Kings 19:4). Despite being a man of great miracles and faith, he struggled with the same human emotions we do.
Yet, in James 5:17-18, we are reminded that Elijah was just like us—an ordinary man with similar struggles. But when he prayed in faith, God answered. James’ point is clear: even when imperfect people pray, God listens.
Why? Because God’s faithfulness is not dependent on our perfection.
God Chose You Before the Foundation of the World
Ephesians 1 tells us that God chose us before the foundation of the world. This wasn’t a random decision. It wasn’t an afterthought. He deliberately chose you and made you holy—not because of what you have done, but because of His grace.
Think about that. Before you ever made a mistake, before you ever had a success, before you even existed—God had already set His love upon you. He did it all.
Yet, we often struggle to receive this truth. Maybe it’s because we’ve been taught that God’s love is tied to our performance. We hear messages that imply that if we don’t do enough for God, He won’t be pleased with us. But that’s not the gospel.
The truth is, God loves you not because of what you do, but because of your faith in Him.
Your Value Doesn’t Change in God’s Eyes
Imagine holding a $100 bill. If you crumple it, stomp on it, or throw it in the dirt, it’s still worth $100. No matter what it goes through, its value remains the same.
That’s exactly how God sees you.
You might feel broken, discouraged, or unworthy. Maybe life has crushed you, and you wonder if you still matter. But God sees your true worth—unchanged, unwavering, and rooted in His love for you.
The Greatest Thing You Can Do
The greatest thing you can do in your spiritual journey is not to strive for perfection, but to understand and receive God’s unconditional love. His love isn’t earned—it’s freely given.
So, the next time you feel unworthy, remember this: God deliberately chose you. He knows your flaws, your struggles, and your doubts, and He loves you completely. You are valuable, not because of what you do, but because of who you are in Him.
Rest in that truth today. God’s love is constant, and His choice of you was never a mistake.
