Ever read Galatians 5:10 and think, “Wait… if Paul was so confident in the Galatians, why was he so intense for five chapters?”
“I have confidence in the Lord that you will take no other view…” – Galatians 5:10
Good question.
The answer? Because confidence in the Lord doesn’t cancel out correction.
Paul wasn’t doubting their salvation. He wasn’t panicking. His confidence wasn’t in them getting it right. He says, “I have confidence in the Lord”—that Jesus would pull them back to truth.
And that’s Paul’s usual pastoral rhythm:
- He warns strongly
- Then reminds them who they are in Christ
- Then expresses confidence that grace will win
It’s that beautiful tension: grace-based confidence with urgent correction.
“Grace will get you home, but your choices steer the wheel—and they’ll decide how rough or long the road will be.”
Think of it like a parent saying, “I know you know better… but don’t you dare go down that path.” Not because they doubt you, but because they love you. That’s Paul in Galatians. Correction is part of care—even when you’re sure of the outcome.
