You’re Not Who Society Says You Are—Here’s Proof: Gal 3:28-29

2–3 minutes

Ever felt like you don’t quite measure up because of your background, your gender, or maybe even your status? The good news is, in Christ, none of that matters. One of my favorite passages, Galatians 3:28-29, makes this abundantly clear:

“There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s descendants, heirs according to promise.” (Gal 3:28-29)

Breaking Down Barriers of Heritage

Historically, Jews were considered the chosen people, holding a special place because God gave them His laws and promises first. But something amazing happened with Jesus—everyone who believes in Him, regardless of nationality, shares equal standing.

Yet, strangely enough, I’ve observed a trend, where some ethnic groups are elevated above others as if they’re spiritually superior. But let’s remember what the Bible says clearly: in Christ, we’re all equally God’s children. Your heritage, nationality, or background does not determine your worth or spiritual value.

Breaking Chains of Status and Slavery

A slave is equal to its master in the spirit – what a revolutionary message would have that been to those who were slaves. Even though their physical circumstances didn’t immediately change, they were free. What a powerful truth!

Today, people still hold on to mentalities from the old. But we must renew our minds with this liberating truth: no matter your social status, job, or circumstances, your worth is equal in Christ.

Equal Value for Men and Women

Men and women are one in Christ!

Women have faced centuries of being undervalued and oppressed—even within churches.

Yet, Galatians clearly states there’s no distinction between men and women in Christ. Of course, roles within families exist, much like within the Trinity itself, but roles do not equal superiority or inferiority. Some people are still stuck in the old mindset and against having women pastors, or even women speaking in church, and I show them this verse, there is no distinction between men and women in Christ.

So, Who Are We, Really?

In Christ, we are all equally sons of God, heirs of the promise made to Abraham, which is fulfilled in Jesus Himself. We’re not second-class citizens. We’re the new Israel, the new creation, holy and blameless in God’s eyes. God doesn’t overlook your identity—He treasures it because you are uniquely loved and favored in Christ.

Next time someone tries to make you feel less valuable due to your background, status, or gender, remind yourself of who you truly are—chosen, beloved, and equal in Christ.
