The War of the Words: Spiritual Battle 101

1–2 minutes

The battle in the spiritual realm is all about the words. If you look at the story of the Temptation of Jesus in Luke 4:1-13, you’ll see the devil saying this, Jesus responding, the devil coming back, Jesus answering, and so on until the devil finally gives up and leaves.

It wasn’t a physical fight, just a battle of words. Words have the power to make a real impact and to tear things down. The Bible compares the tongue to a poisonous arrow in Psalm 64:3 and Psalm 140:3, and mentions fiery darts in Eph 6:16. In Psalm 58:4, there’s talk of poisonous speech, and Proverbs 26:19 also touches on this. In James 3:5-10, the damaging effects of words are discussed.

It was also mentioned in Isaiah 54:15 when it talks attacks which are words. Then in verse 17 he talks about “No weapon..” which refers to words.

There was a type of arrow that was in the olden days, which was hard to make. It was hollow on the inside and full of combustible liquid, and when shot, it would hit the place and then explode. Kind of like the fiery arrows, but the only thing is that this explodes. These are the kind of arrows that are mentioend here.

When words like that come against us, speak against it, and cancel it, and then take the shield of faith. When an arrow is shot at us, it is important to take the shield of faith and quench the fiery dart and do not let it even come into our heart to explode.

That is why Jesus spoke as soon as he heard the arrow that came from Jairus’s servant’s mouth and even before it reached Jairus, he cancelled the arrow in Mark 5:35-36. It says “as soon as Jesus heard it”

Today is the day to put on your cancelation cape and slay those words spoken against you! Don’t wait for a sign from above, just go for it now.
