Spiritual Warfare: What If the Battle Is Just… Standing?

1–2 minutes

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the whole armor of God… and having done all, to stand firm.” — Ephesians 6:10–13

Let’s be honest: most of us hear the term spiritual warfare and think epic battle scenes, loud prayers, maybe even fasting marathons. And hey—passion and prayer are good! But here’s the twist…

Paul doesn’t tell us to fight.

He says three times in just a few verses to stand:

  1. “…that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.” (v11)
  2. “…that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.” (v13)
  3. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth…” (v14)

So maybe spiritual warfare isn’t about charging into battle—it’s about standing our ground. Not fighting for victory, but standing in the victory already won.

What’s Our Real Weapon?

It’s easy to assume our strongest tools in warfare are fasting, crying out, or intense prayer marathons. But look at what Paul actually lists:

“…and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.” (v17)

That’s it. The Word is the only weapon mentioned. Fasting and prayer are good, but they’re not replacements for truth. Jesus didn’t fast the devil away. He answered every lie with Scripture.

“It is written…” — that’s what sent the devil packing.

So What Does “Standing” Look Like?

  • It looks like refusing to believe lies when your emotions tell you otherwise.
  • It looks like holding on to your identity in Christ even when your past accuses you.
  • It looks like wielding truth, not hype or fear.

We’re not called to be demon-chasers—we’re called to be truth-standers. Our posture is firm, grounded, and unshakeable—not frantically battling an enemy who’s already defeated.

Final Thought

So maybe spiritual warfare isn’t some mystical battlefield where you need to prove your strength. Maybe it’s a daily stand of trust. In truth. In righteousness. In the finished work of Christ.

Stand firm. It’s already won.
