We often hear phrases like “child of God” or “led by the Spirit,” but have you ever stopped to ask: What exactly happens when I become God’s child?
Paul gives us a stunning answer in Romans 8:14–16 and Galatians 4:6. And when we slow down, we discover that three powerful things happen all at once—a beautiful, seamless work of God that forever changes your identity.

1. You Are Adopted into God’s Family
Salvation isn’t just a fresh start; it’s a family transfer. The moment you put your faith in Jesus, God doesn’t just forgive you—He brings you into His family. You become His child not by merit, but by grace. It’s a legal and relational act: you are now adopted.
“You have received the Spirit of adoption as sons…” (Romans 8:15)
“That we might receive adoption as sons…” (Galatians 4:5)
You’re no longer an outsider. You are wanted, named, and brought home.
2. The Holy Spirit Comes to Dwell in You
God doesn’t leave His children guessing. Along with adoption, He gives us His own Spirit—not just to be near us, but to actually live inside us. The Holy Spirit is the seal of your new identity. He’s also the voice that whispers: You belong to the Father now.
“Because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, ‘Abba! Father!’” (Galatians 4:6)
“You were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit…” (Ephesians 1:13)

3. Your Spirit is United with His Spirit

- Your spirit becomes one with His.
