Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, not seeking the favor of men but the truth of Christ, to those who lift men higher than the gospel: Grace to the humble, and a sharp rebuke to the proud.
Why Do You Glory in Man?
Brothers and sisters, why do you glory in man? Why do you speak more of your pastor than of your Lord? Why do you say, “We follow the general,” as though Christ were a soldier beneath him?
Do you not remember what is written:
“Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord” (1 Corinthians 1:31)?
You Have Built Thrones for Men, Not Altars for God
You adorn conferences with their faces, you flood your gatherings with their quotes, and you silence any who dare to question them.
When they speak, you treat it as Scripture. When they err, you call it “progressive revelation.”
But I tell you — the Word of God is not chained to any man’s brand. The Lord will not share His glory with another (Isaiah 42:8).
You Call Them Generals, But Christ Calls Them Servants
But Christ Himself said:
“You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. It shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant” (Matthew 20:25–26).
If a man exalts himself above the flock, he ceases to be a shepherd and becomes a hireling.
You Protect Reputations More Than You Protect the Truth
When these pastors fall into error, you rally to protect their image rather than the gospel. You silence whistleblowers, you shun the Bereans who test everything by the Scriptures (Acts 17:11), and you call discernment “rebellion.”
But Paul withstood Peter to his face when he walked not in step with the truth of the gospel (Galatians 2:11–14). Why do you think your leaders are beyond correction?
You Have Made Idols in the Sanctuary
Some of you follow these men for their charisma. Others for their power. But whatever the reason, you have carved their images in your hearts. This is idolatry dressed in Sunday clothes.
Remember the words of the Baptist:
“He must increase, but I must decrease” (John 3:30).
Final Admonition
Therefore, repent of this man-worship. Tear down the thrones you have built for flesh and blood, and exalt Christ alone. Honor your leaders, yes — but never place them where only Jesus belongs.
For the day is coming when all celebrity will be stripped away, and only one Name will be praised. Let that Name be on your lips now.
