You have a better Covenant than Old Testament Legends!

2–3 minutes

A lot of believers today look up to the spiritual giants of the Old Testament—Abraham, Job, Elijah, Elisha. And sure, their stories are inspiring. But let’s be real: you’ve got something better.

Yep—better than Abraham’s blessing, better than Elijah’s fire, better than David’s harp-filled psalms. Why? Because you’re part of a better covenant.

The New Covenant doesn’t just tweak the old one. It surpasses it. It’s built on better promises, established by a better mediator—Jesus Himself (Hebrews 8:6, 9:15).

“But in fact the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, since the new covenant is established on better promises. (Hebrews 8:6)”

Here’s how the New outshines the Old:

  • Old: God’s wrath burned against sin.
New: You’ve been rescued from wrath once and for all (Romans 5:9).
  • Old: Animal sacrifices reminded people of sin every year.
New: God remembers your sins no more (Hebrews 8:12).
  • Old: The Holy Spirit came and went.
New: The Spirit lives in you forever (Ephesians 1:13–14).
  • Old: David begged, “Don’t take your Spirit from me.”
New: You’re fused with Christ—one spirit with the Lord—and He promises to never leave you (1 Corinthians 6:17, Hebrews 13:5).

So why reach back to the old when you’ve been handed something far greater?

You don’t need Elijah’s double portion. You’ve been given all of Christ. You don’t need to plead for God’s presence. You are His temple. You don’t need to fear being cast out. You are forever sealed.

We honor the Old Testament heroes, but we don’t live in their covenant. We live in the New—where grace reigns, sin is forgiven, and Jesus has done what the Law never could.

“Some faced jeers and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment. They were put to death by stoning; they were sawed in two; they were killed by the sword. They went about in sheepskins and goatskins, destitute, persecuted and mistreated—the world was not worthy of them. They wandered in deserts and mountains, living in caves and in holes in the ground. These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised, since God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect. (Hebrews 11:36–40)”

So go ahead—be inspired by Abraham. Admire Elijah. But remember:
You have something they longed to see!
