Debunking “But didn’t Jesus fail to heal everyone in His hometown?”

3–5 minutes

In Matthew 4:23-24 (KJV), we see that he healed ALL.

“Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people. And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatic, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them.”

Who did He heal? Them all.

But didn’t Jesus fail to heal everyone in His hometown?”

Many people question, “But didn’t Jesus fail to heal everyone in His hometown?” That is a misinterpretation.

Luke 4:40 (KJV) states:

“Now when the sun was setting, all they that had any sick with divers diseases brought them unto him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them.”

Did Jesus heal some? No, He laid hands on every one of them, and healed THEM.

There is no verse that says Jesus tried and failed. It doesn’t say that He attempted to heal and was unsuccessful. It clearly says He healed them all.

Jesus Himself said:

“The same works I do, you’ll do.”

If Jesus healed them all, then we must believe for all to be healed.

Does the sick person’s unbelief hinder the power of God?

Let’s look into that. In Matthew 13:53-58 (KJV):

“And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these parables, he departed thence. And when he was come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works? Is not this the carpenter’s son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things? And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house. And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.”

Does this say Jesus did no mighty works? No! It says He did not many.

Why? Because they were offended in Him.

Jesus did not fail. People failed to come to Him for healing. This is clearly mentioned in Mark 6:1-6.

“And he went out from thence, and came into his own country; and his disciples follow him. And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands? Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house. And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them.”

When you read the above, it does not say “no works” but “not many.”

Jesus did heal those who came to Him. The unbelief in the town did not stop God’s power, but it stopped people from coming to Him for healing. They were really offended at him, that they didn’t go anywhere close to him for healing. However, it mentions that he could do no mighty works except he laid hands on a few sick folk and healed them. So this means whoever he laid hands on he healed.

Healing is not limited by unbelief in others.

If you lay hands on 3 people and 3 get healed, that’s 100% success. If 900 refuse to come, that doesn’t change the fact that Jesus is the Healer.

God’s will for healing is clear.

Final Thoughts

The issue isn’t whether Jesus can heal all—it’s whether people come to Him to receive. The next time someone says, “Well, what about Jesus not healing in His hometown?” remind them:

The power of God is never limited—only people’s willingness to receive it is.

Healing is God’s will. Believe it, walk in it, and see it manifest in your life.
