“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap.”
(Galatians 6:7–10)
Paul shifts gears here — but he’s still building the same big idea:
A Spirit-led life shows up in real ways.
You Reap What You Sow — Even Under Grace
Grace doesn’t cancel consequences.
Paul says clearly:
- If you sow to the flesh — live out selfishness, pride, lust, greed — you’ll reap corruption (Gal. 6:8).
- If you sow to the Spirit — live by dependence on Christ — you’ll reap life.
This isn’t about losing your salvation.
It’s about the kind of harvest you experience in your daily life.
Grace means you’re always God’s child.
But it doesn’t mean you’re exempt from the natural consequences of your choices. 1
What is “Corruption”?
The Greek word for corruption is phthora — meaning:
- Decay
- Ruin
- Rotting away
It’s the slow, sad breakdown of peace, joy, relationships, and health when we live out of the flesh.
Paul isn’t threatening hell here.
He’s talking about ruined lives, broken marriages, stressed-out minds, emptiness inside.
I recently came across a reel where a man confronted a popular influencer. This influencer had been teaching people to “just sleep around” and not worry or “fear” the consequences. The man explained that he followed that advice — he lived recklessly, lost his family, and ended up miserable, losing everything that mattered to him.However, he shared that later he turned his life around, gave his life to Jesus, and now he has been restored and has a happy family again.
If you plant seeds of selfishness, don’t be surprised when a rotten harvest comes up.
What Does Sowing to the Spirit Look Like?
When you live by the Spirit:
- Trusting Christ instead of yourself
- Setting your mind on what is true, noble, good (Phil. 4:8)
- Walking in love and dependence
You experience the life of heaven breaking into earth — right now.
Just like Romans 8:6 says:
“The mind set on the Spirit is life and peace.”
It’s not about getting “more saved.”
You’re already fully saved.
It’s about tasting the fullness of the life Christ put in you.
Keep Doing Good — Even When It’s Hard
Paul encourages:
“Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary.” (Gal. 6:9)
Good seeds take time to grow.
You might not see instant results when you walk by love and faith.
But the harvest will come.
Don’t quit.
Keep sowing good.
Keep trusting Jesus.
Keep loving others.
Do Good to All People — Not Just Christians
Finally, Paul says:
“So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith.” (Gal. 6:10)
Some people only focus on “helping believers,” but Paul reminds us:
- Love is bigger than just our spiritual family.
- We help all people — not as a strategy to “win them to Christ,” but because love naturally overflows.
Love helps the hurting without asking for anything back.
Final Thought
You’re free in Christ — so sow to the Spirit.
Choose love.
Choose life.
And trust that the Spirit will grow a harvest in you that you could never manufacture yourself.
- The devil still doesn’t have a “right” to attack you, even if you are walking under the flesh. It is not the devil that is the problem, but rather your choices. The devil can only try to deceive you to put your mind on the flesh, so that you can reap from the flesh. ↩︎
