Never Back Down: Testimony of Standing on God’s Word

1–2 minutes

Here’s an amazing testimony of Curry Blake, Overseer of John G Lake Ministries, when he went to Italy:

Curry’s Testimony

Let me tell you about Angelo, the young man in Italy who was shot and declared brain dead.

When I was asked to pray for him, I walked into the hospital room.

  • His eyes were open, but he was unresponsive.
  • There was no brain activity on the monitor.
  • The doctors were preparing to pull the plug.

I walked up to him and said:

“Angelo, in the name of Jesus, wake up. Your brain will function correctly. Your body will function correctly. You will remember everything correctly. Be healed.”

Then I walked out.

Outside the room, people gathered around and asked:

  • “Did the Lord speak to you?”
  • “What did He say?”

I answered:

“Yes, He spoke to me. He said, ‘Lay hands on the sick and they shall recover.’”

They looked disappointed.

  • “So the Lord didn’t give you a special word?”
  • “You didn’t hear anything new?”

I said:

“Mark 16:18 is enough. His Word is enough.”

That night, I went for a walk and prayed.

I told God:

“I didn’t come halfway around the world to give these people false hope. Angelo must live.”

Then I left it in God’s hands.

The next day, while I was getting ready for service, someone ran up to me shouting:

“Brother Curry! Have you heard about Angelo?”

I said, “I heard he died.”, because I had heard it but I wasn’t going to say acknowledge it.

They said:

“No! Angelo lives! He woke up, he remembers everything, and he’s completely fine!”

God’s Word worked.

Why?

Because I refused to back down. If I had wavered, Angelo would have been buried.

The Lesson: Stand Firm

Here’s the lesson:

  • The devil will challenge your faith.
  • Circumstances will challenge your faith.
  • People will challenge your faith.

But if you refuse to back down, God’s Word will always prevail.

That’s why Scripture says:

“Thanks be unto God, who always causes us to triumph in Christ Jesus.” (2 Corinthians 2:14)
