Scripture Focus:
“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” – Galatians 2:20 (NIV)
Reflection:
What happened to Jesus—His crucifixion, burial, and resurrection—also happened to us as believers. When we placed our faith in Him, we were united with Him in His death, burial, and resurrection. This profound truth means that our old selves, bound by sin and death, were crucified with Christ. In their place, we have been raised to new life, equipped and empowered by His grace.
Through Jesus, we have been given a new heart and a new spirit (Ezekiel 36:26), and God Himself dwells within us through the Holy Spirit. We are no longer slaves to sin but are empowered to live upright and godly lives by the same grace that saved us. As Paul writes in Titus 2:11–12, “For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say ‘No’ to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age.”
This new life isn’t one we strive to achieve on our own. The power to live righteously comes from God’s Spirit working within us. By grace, we are both equipped and sustained. This grace not only saves us but also empowers us daily, teaching us to walk in the victory Jesus already won for us.
Takeaway Points:
1. United with Christ: As believers, we were crucified, buried, and raised with Christ. Our old selves are gone, and we are made new in Him.
2. A New Heart and Spirit: God has given us a new heart and spirit, along with His Spirit, empowering us to live according to His will.
3. Grace Empowers Righteousness: The grace that saved us also equips us to live upright and godly lives, enabling us to say no to sin and yes to righteousness.
4. Living in Victory: The life we live now is by faith in Jesus, trusting in His power and provision for every aspect of our journey.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for uniting us with Jesus in His death and resurrection. Thank You for giving us a new heart, a new spirit, and Your Spirit to guide and empower us. Teach us to rely on Your grace each day as we live lives that reflect Your righteousness and love. Help us to walk in the victory Jesus won for us, saying no to sin and yes to Your perfect will. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
