Do you have to keep “Putting on Christ” daily?: Gal 3:27

2–3 minutes

When you believed in Jesus—really placed your trust in Him—something eternal happened. It wasn’t just a prayer, a moment, or a spiritual checkbox.

It was a total transformation. You put on Christ! Let’s dig into Galatians 3:27 for a second:

“For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.”

Here’s how the original Greek brings this to life:

  • “were baptized” (ἐβαπτίσθητε) – Passive voice
➤ This was done to you. You didn’t baptize yourself into Christ. God did it.
  • “have put on Christ” (ἐνεδύσασθε) – Middle voice
➤ It was done to you with you as the beneficiary.

The message is clear: You are not the hero of the story.
God did the placing. God did the clothing.
All you did was believe.

You Have Put on Christ—Once and For All

Some people treat the Christian life like they need to “put on Christ” in the morning, only to feel like He’s fallen off by lunchtime because they snapped at someone or skipped a quiet time.

But that’s not the gospel.

Paul doesn’t say, “Try on Christ.”
He says, “You have put on Christ.” (Past tense. Done.)

You didn’t put Him on by good behavior—so you can’t take Him off by bad behavior. This was never a performance contract. It was a faith transaction.

You are a son of God through faith (Galatians 3:26), and sons have this inseparable clothing. This is your eternal identity—in Christ, clothed with Him.

And here’s the best part:
You’re not waking up each day to re-earn it.
You’re waking up each day to walk in it.

Stop Adding Conditions

We all have a tendency to sneak conditions into grace, aka legalism.

We turn done deals into “to-do” lists, and we say things like, “I know I’m in Christ, but I still need to…”
Or “I have to stay clean to keep Him on me.”

But the truth is:

You were placed in Him.
You are kept secure in Him.
You have been clothed with Him.

As simple as that.

You didn’t put Him on by effort,
You can’t take Him off by failure,
You believed—and that settled it.

What does this mean for me?

The same thing which John said in 1 John 4:17, which is that as he is so are we in this world. We are clothed with Christ, and it is only a matter of whether we step out in who we are. We have a new clothing and the manual says, “Like Christ”. Isn’t that amazing. This is why we are blameless, holy, sanctified, justified, and absolutely perfect and righteous, in Him. We have all the promises to be yes and amen because we are in Him. We are blessed with every spiritual blessing because we are in Him. Two words that are the so pivotal to the life of a Christian is “In Him”.

So, How Do We “Put on Christ”?

Here’s the answer that confuses religious minds and frees the humble heart:

You already did.
By faith.
It’s a done deal.

Now, live like it. Not to get it—but because you already have it.
