The Mystery Revealed: Christ in Us, the Hope of Glory: Col 1:26-27

2–3 minutes

“…the mystery which has been hidden from the past ages and generations, but has now been manifested to His saints, to whom God willed to make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.” (Colossians 1:26–27)

The Hidden Mystery, Now Revealed

For ages, the greatest secret was hidden—something prophets longed to see but never fully grasped. Now, in Christ, that mystery is unveiled: Christ in us.

Not beside us, not just above us, but dwelling within every believer. This is not symbolic—it is the very presence of the risen Lord making His home in human hearts.

The Riches of Christ’s Glory

Paul calls this reality “the riches of the glory of this mystery.”

  • Glory (Greek: δόξα, doxa) means weightiness, honor, splendor. In the Old Testament, δόξα translates the Hebrew כָּבוֹד (kabod), often describing God’s overwhelming, majestic presence filling the temple. Imagine that same glory now residing inside you.
  • Riches (Greek: πλοῦτος, ploutos) speaks of abundance and immeasurable wealth. Christ’s glory is not limited to spiritual blessing but brings wholeness, favor, and transformation wherever He dwells.

We see glimpses of this in Scripture:

  • Transformation – believers are changed “from glory to glory” (2 Corinthians 3:18).
  • Outward blessing – the house of Obed-Edom flourished when God’s glory rested there (2 Samuel 6:11).

The riches of Christ’s glory are both internal (spiritual transformation) and external (life-giving favor and flourishing).

The Hope of Glory

Paul also calls Christ in us “the hope of glory.”

  • Hope (Greek: ἐλπίς, elpis) means confident expectation—not wishful thinking.
  • Christ’s presence is both a foretaste and a guarantee of what is to come.

Though perfected in spirit, believers still await the redemption of their bodies (Philippians 3:20–21; Romans 8:23). The Spirit within us is a down payment of that inheritance (2 Corinthians 1:22; Ephesians 1:14).

One day, we will be raised in glorified bodies—radiant, imperishable, like Christ Himself (1 Corinthians 15:42–44; 1 John 3:2).

Applications

1. Living in the Current Glory

  • Life to Our Mortal Bodies – The Spirit who raised Christ brings vitality to our bodies (Romans 8:11). Speak health and strength over yourself daily.
  • Transformation into Christ’s Likeness – As we behold His glory, we are changed into His image (2 Corinthians 3:18). Meditate often on Christ’s presence within you.
  • Flourishing and Prosperity – God’s glory brings increase and enables us to bless others. Live with expectancy, not lack.

2. Anchored in the Hope of Glory

  • Glorified Bodies Await – Temporary weakness will give way to eternal strength (Philippians 3:21). Let this truth fuel your endurance.
  • Radiance of Eternity – Those who walk in righteousness will shine like the stars forever (Daniel 12:3). Keep investing in what lasts.
  • Endurance in Trials – Present sufferings cannot compare to future glory (Romans 8:18). Hold fast with eyes fixed on eternity.

Conclusion

The mystery is no longer hidden. The riches of glory are already ours in Christ, and the hope of glory is secure in our future. Christ in us is both our present reality and our eternal destiny.

So let us walk in the fullness of His indwelling presence today, while eagerly awaiting the day when His glory will be revealed in us forever.
