You’ve probably heard it before: “We’re saved by grace alone, through faith alone.”
Sounds solid, right?
But then comes the big “BUT.”
“But you’ve got to have works to prove it.”
“But if you don’t have works, maybe you weren’t really saved.”
Wait a second—didn’t we just say grace alone? When we sneak works back in through the back door, we’re not really talking about grace anymore. We’re saying: “You’re saved by grace plus proving it with works.” And if that’s the case, grace isn’t grace. It’s a trade. A deal. And that’s not the gospel.
Here’s the truth: Salvation really is by grace. Period.
It’s not about how well you perform, how consistent you are, or how much fruit you can show. It’s 100% about what Jesus has already done—not about what you have to do to “seal the deal.”
Yes, good works matter. Yes, they’ll come. But they don’t earn or prove your salvation. They’re the overflow, not the entry ticket.
Let’s stop adding fine print to the gospel. Grace is enough.
