We have been going through Gal 2:19-20 for quite some time now and here is the last part of this series. Our key-verse:
I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God—He who loved me and gave Himself up for me.
The Bible teaches that we are not only crucified with Christ, but we were also buried with Him (Rom. 6:4), raised with Him (Col. 3:1), and seated with Him in the heavenly places (Eph. 2:6). Though we were sinners when we died, being raised with Him makes us a new creation—with the old gone (2 Cor. 5:17).
Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.
What new has come?
We Have His Power
Jesus declares in Ephesians 1:19–20:
“And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places.”
We possess the very power that raised Jesus from the dead—the same power that reverses death to life!
We Have His Authority
In Matthew 28:18, Jesus proclaims,
“All authority is given unto me in heaven and in earth.”
Thus, when we are in Christ, we operate with His authority. Ephesians 2:6 further reminds us that being seated in the heavenly places is a position of authority.
We Have His Life
Romans 8:11 states,
“But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.”
When we are born again, the same Spirit that raised Jesus dwells in us, imparting life to our mortal bodies. This living Spirit dispels darkness, undergirds divine health, and flows as the living water promised in John 7:38. When we lay hands on the sick, it is this life that is released to those in need.
We Have Pre-Approvals
As in 2 Cor 1:20
For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.
Because we are in Christ, we inherit all His benefits. Though He was born under the law (Gal. 4:4), He kept it perfectly, so that the righteous requirement is fulfilled in us (Rom. 8:4). This means every promise in the Bible—and every blessing outlined in Deut. 28—is affirmed as “Yes” and “Amen.” While some fast and pray for these promises to be activated, if you are in Christ, they are already in effect; all that is required is faith and action. Moreover, for those in Christ Jesus, the curses of the law no longer apply (Gal. 3:13).
Live It Out
When we have His power, authority, and life, with every promise declared “Yes” and “Amen,” we are born out of love and compelled to love others and impact their lives. That is our true identity. If we were to use these gifts solely for our own enrichment, we would be deceived. With great power comes great responsibility—and this is precisely what Paul means when he declares, “The life I live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God.”
